Prof. Beck Lecture Tonight!!!

Professor Beck will be giving a lecture tonight on the square root of two ( (2)^(1/2) ) in the CoRE Auditorium at 8pm. Come check it out and bring your friends. He's considering writing a book on the subject, so it should prove to be quite an interesting lecture!

There'll also be pizza drinks.

Big Updates!!!

All right, this semester has hit the Pi Club e-board pretty hard (being seniors doesn't help) and we've had a bit of a lull. But we're fighting back! We've got a slew of events coming up for you, so mark your calendars!

• First up, we have a Study Session this Wednesday April 09, 2007 at 8pm in the Busch Campus Center 120C. This will be a really simple event, just bring a book and come hang out. We'll bring some snacks!
  
  
• This is BIG! We're hosting a Super Smash Brothers: Melee Tournament Sunday April 15, 2007 at 3pm on Busch Campus at Silvers 266.
  
  We have a projector and a GameCube with a full unlocked SSBM save, just bring your controllers and your game. If you intend to come to this event, please send us an e-mail at piclub@eden.rutgers.edu. This isn't mandatory, but we'd like to know how many people are coming. Feel free to bring your friends!
  
  
• Third, Professor Beck is going to be giving a talk the following Wednesday April 18th, 2007 at 8pm in either the CoRE Auditorium or the Fiber Optics Auditorium. We're still in the process of securing a room, so look for an update on that as well.
  
  
• Lastly, we are holding Pi Club elections on Tuesday April 24, 2007 at 9pm in the Busch Campus Center Room Center Hall. This is a big event and we want to see everyone there. We highly encourage anyone interested in a position to run! All positions are up for grabs, and this is a great way to get a lot of practical experience that looks great on your resume!

Forums

Okay guys, this has actually been in the making for a while, but we have some forums up for you. Mark's been working on these and he did a great job! You can access the Pi Club Forums through this link or through the link on the top.

Once there, you can create accounts, choose an avatar, put polls up and lots of other things. Feel free to post on whatever you feel like, math, religion, or even llamas. Just be courteous to other users and don't turn it into a flame pit. Post on whatever you feel like and make the Pi Club Forums a great place to be!

Welcome back!

Welcome back Pi Clubbers! We've got pizza and a welcoming meeting for all of our members, and all first timers! Come enjoy some pizza, and maybe even learn a thinger or two. It's sure to be the Pi Clubber Lang to knock-out the Start of the Semesester Balboa Blues!

Come one, come all, to the first general meeting of the Rutgers University Pi Club! There will be pizza.

We'll be discussing our upcoming plans for the semester, and YOUR role in it! Lectures, workshops, presentations, pizza, etc. Tonight's schedule includes a welcome back, and a celebration of the first 3.14 months (roughly) of Pi Club's existence!

Dr. Z Lecture Update

Dr. Z's lecture location has been finalized! Tell all your friends. Here we go:

• When: Thursday, December 7th, 2006
• Where: CoRE Auditorium, CoRE Building, Busch Campus
• Time: 7:00pm
• To: Dr. Doron Zeilberger's presentation of the slowest way to find Pi, and other math goodies!
• Why: Because, not only is this the second in a lecture series presented by Pi Club, it's the beginning of a math professor rivalry between Dr. Z and Professor Greenfield, or at least so we're hoping. A math war would be awesome.

As always, there will be Pizza! Bring your friends! Bring your family! Bring your lovers! Bring your mind.

Prof. Zeilberger Lecture

Professor Zeilberger will be giving a lecture on December 7th, 2006 at 7pm. We are still in the process of securing a room so look for us to update further with those details very soon. Until then, keep it tuned. This'll be a great event!

Updates & Upcoming Event

Thanks to everyone who showed up to the Greenfield lecture. He gave a great lecture and the event was a fantastic success!

Some minor updates are being made to the site, including the navigation bar at the top. We're fleshing out some of the pages so look for that to come. We haven't made an official post about this, but we've acquired the host piclub.rutgers.edu so you can now find us there, which is the epitome of links for us. However, you can still reach us through any of our old links.

Lastly, we have an upcoming event coming up quite soon actually!

• To: General Meeting and a screening of Darren Aronofsky's Pi (the guy who did Requiem for a Dream)

Hosted Speaker Event

Details:

• When: Thursday, November 2nd, 2006
• Where: Wright Auditorium, Busch Campus
• Time: Starts at 7pm
• Who: Professor Stephen J. Greenfield
• To: A talk relating to Leonardo Pisano, bunnies, and math.
• For: This event is open to Rutgers students of any major. The talk is recommended to students who have completed, or are in the process of completing, a year of Calculus. However, all are encouraged to attend.
• Why: For the bunnies.

General Interest Meeting
Come to our General Interest Meeting and learn more about π Club!

Here's the details:

• When: Thursday, October 19th, 2006
• Where: Busch Campus Center 117
• Time: 7:30-8:30pm
• To: Discuss upcoming events and recruit new members.
• Why: Because you love it.

Also, we have put in for a virtual host and it is in process. Expect to see our new URL piclub.rutgers.edu very soon! A new navigation pane will also be introduced to the site for Pi Club specific stuff also and an officer's page. Lastly, I know it's bad practice considering internet explorer still has about 85% market share, but their rendering code sucks, so this page is developed with Firefox being the target browser. That being said, it also renders properly in Opera and Safari. The incorrect rendering in IE is purely cosmetic, but for the intended rendering check out Firefox.

      The RSS feed is up, running, and validated.

Also we are currently working on setting up our upcoming lecture! Look for it to happen in two to three weeks time.

We are an officially recognized EGC organization!

We are now in process of going through our remaining next steps. We're working on getting an official website, prepping up plans for upcoming events, and finishing the remaining paper work. We have also planned our meeting for Thursday the 19th at 8 o'clock. The location is still tentative, so for a definitive update on the meeting, please join our mailing list, as we will be sending out a notification that way. Also, we are still working on getting an RSS feed. This is more a matter of when than if, so look for that too!

π club will be presenting its Bill of Establishment to the Rutgers Engineering Governing Council on September 25, 2006. This is our first step towards being an officially recognized student organization!
